Tips To Help You Win International Project Funding

By Brenda Reed

Running a program or an organization that is helping people can be quite fulfilling. Nevertheless, it can also be quite demanding and require a lot of money. One of the best ways to finance your mission is by approaching donors. When you do so, here are some strategies that you can use in order to increase your chances of securing international project funding for your organization.

Make sure that you only approach organizations that provide funding for the niche that you are in. There are probably hundreds of organizations who support the causes that you do. Approaching them will increase your chances of getting an award rather than if you approach organizations that are in a different niche. Therefore, do your research well before you start sending out applications.

It is important that you approach the potential donor in the right way. This will increase your chances of getting an award. If you do not know how to approach them, the best thing to do is to contact them and ask them how to go about it. For instance, ask them if they want a soft copy or a hard copy of the proposal. Also ask which language they prefer to get submissions in.

There are different types of application. It is important that you use the right application that is acceptable to the organization. For example, there is a preliminary application, full funding application and outline application. This is mainly done to ensure that only acceptable causes make it up to the final stages of the application, so there is no need to submit a full application at first unless you have been specifically asked to. This will save you a lot of time.

Research and find out who will be reading your proposal. This will help you to tailor make it, so that it resonates with the reader. Check out the website of the potential donor to see if they have listed their past reviewers. This will help you know what kind of audience you should expect to read your proposal.

Always make sure that you follow the given guidelines when submitting your application. Overlooking some guidelines could lead to your application being rejected, so be careful when reading the given guidelines for applicants. So, take the extra step and find out what the rules are before you start the application process.

Ensure that you are eligible for the grant. There is no need for you to apply for a grant that you are not eligible for. If there is something that disqualifies you from being eligible, find ways to correct or address the issue before you send in your application for financing.

Ask for advice, especially if it is your first time to send out applications. Talk to industry experts, read widely and spend time with other people who have undergone the same process. This will help you learn what the do's and don'ts are. If possible, ask advice from someone who has successfully applied for the same grant that you want to apply to.
