Work The Land With Okeechobee Ranches For Sale

By Mattie Knight

This year the town of Okeechobee is celebrating one hundred years as a community. The area has a lot to offer prospective ranchers. Okeechobee ranches for sale are available in small plots or grand ranches with thousands of acres. For people who have lived in suburban or urban America, it is impossible to imagine this much land without a freeway or shopping mall. If hundreds or thousands of acres is too intimidating, smaller plots around ten acres are also available.

There is no doubt that you get the most for your dollar with an Okeechobee land purchase. If you are thinking of a smaller, more manageable plot, ten or twenty acres will make a nice sized ranch. A four bedroom ranch house complete with well water and an enormous kitchen will be a wonderful place to make your new home.

The area is known for raising livestock and growing agriculture. The vast acres of land are put to good use by the local residents. Ranching is a way of life. If you are going to start as s complete novice be sure to get lots of expert advice. The work is hard, but those who spend their lives working the land love it.

Some of the properties have various structures, such as barns, pavilions and stables. With a plot of land thousands of acres large, you will need a comfortable home because there will be days when you will not leave the ranch. Choose the size you want and choose between agriculture and livestock.

For the more luxurious minded buyer there are lodges with acres of land for all manner of outdoor activities. Your land will most likely have at least one pond for fishing or be near to Lake Okeechobee. The lands are relatively flat and great for horse riding. There will be a pump house for your well water. This is the rural life at its best.

If you are in the mood to be social, the community prides itself on its hospitality. In March 2016, there will be a three day Okeechobee music and arts festival. The line up of musical talent is quite impressive. The festival will have five stages for musicians and performers. This would be a fun way to get to know the area and its people before you purchase the ranch.

You will not be far from Lake Okeechobee with seven hundred fifty square miles filled with fresh water fish. The Lake is known far and wide for its speckled perch and the large mouth bass. The waters are unparalleled for fresh water fishing, a nice break from the ranch chores. The townspeople call the lake the Big O, which is part of the Okeechobee Waterway that flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Folks who do not want to out in the water alone can purchase a fishing trip with a local tour guide.

Maybe you have dreamed of owning a horse ranch where families and children can learn to ride. There is plenty of land to board or breed horses. This is the type of ranch that would be open to the public, which is great for the social minded rancher. Whether your ranch grows crops or raises livestock, both are great ways to raise a family. The young ones will have plenty of opportunity to be a part of the 4H Club. There is land as far as the eye can see. Welcome to a home where the livestock roam.
