3 Misguided Beliefs Concerning Home Foundation Repair

By Abner Santos

Whether you are a building manager or a simple home owner, home foundation repair is a very important issue that you need to think about. The concrete foundation of your house holds everything so it means that a single damage can already cause a multitude of problems to your house. When it comes to home foundation repair, there are a couple of misconceptions that many people think about. Well, if you are not knowledgeable about any foundation repairs, here are some of the answers to common misconceptions.

Concrete Block is Weaker than Poured Concrete

Basically, the type of foundation is not related to its strength so it is not really an issue when it comes to the foundation of your house. There are tons of factors that can affect the strength and the weakness of a home foundation like the soil condition, the wall reinforcement during the construction and the footing that supports the wall. The drainage details of the house can also be a factor. Basically, even if a concrete block is significantly weaker than poured concrete, they will have the same durability when they are installed properly.

Hi-Tech Epoxies Solve Crack Easily

This is another misconception because cracks not only appear because of problems on the wall itself. Most of the cracks are caused by a different problem such as soil settlement and other external factors. You can try to use hi-tech epoxies to fix these cracks, but you are simply fixing the symptom and not the root problem. Additional cracks will occur even after you fix the cracks so make sure that you fix the root problem before it gets worse.

Replacement is Better than Fixing a Foundation

This is one of the most important fallacies that must be answered because it has already caused tons of financial problems to families around the world. A concrete foundation literally gets stronger as it ages so if you replace it with a new one, you can expect the replacement to be weaker. It simply means that foundation repair is definitely a better choice, unless repairing it will not solve the other problems of your foundation. You have to remember that you must only consider a replacement if the foundation is already beyond repair.

These are only a few of the many misconceptions about home foundation repair. You can consider these facts to help you out with your concerns.
